I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been practicing since 1987. I provide Individual, Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy, and maintain a private practice in NW Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington.
I work with my clients from a strength-based perspective and utilize various modalities to meet each client’s needs. I believe that within each of us resides a human spirit which has a deep desire to thrive and that the right therapist can assist in that process. I emphasize developmental and systems theory, mindfulness, somatic and cognitive behavioral theory.
Clients often tell me that counseling is much more comfortable than they originally imagined. They appreciate my interest in their unique circumstances and my active participation in the therapy process. Working side by side with my clients, I place a strong emphasis on mindful, present moment experience and strive to help my clients connect past experiences and current presenting problems.
I am an interactive therapist who believes that problems that arise in our lives are opportunities for personal growth. I am a strong advocate for the clients I work with and believe that a sense of safety, which I hope to provide, is paramount for positive change to occur. I believe that we are all doing the best we can with the knowledge we currently have. I will gently explore with you-the challenges you face and the perspective you hold as I assist you in weaving the common thread through your life story. It is the reconnection to the awareness of joy in your life and with others that brings the deepest satisfaction.
In addition to being a therapist, I have presented classes and been a consultant in the area of parenting, adoption, trauma and women's personal growth.
